- Gregory of Dekapolis
- Saint (died ca. 841). His vita (q.v.), written by Ignatios the Deacon (q.v.), is an interesting historical source. Gregory spent a number of years as a monk before starting out on his travels in the 830s. First he went to Ephesus (q.v.), then to the Sea of Marmara, Thrace, Thessalonike, Corinth, Syracuse, Naples, and Rome (qq.v.), before returning to Thessalonike, from where he later traveled to Constantinople (q.v.). Among the information in this vita is a description of a revolt by Slavs near Thessa-lonike (qq.v.).
